David L. Garrett Memorial Scholarship
The David L. Garrett Scholarship Committee would like to invite ECHS graduating seniors with an interest in a career focused on public safety or the medical field, to apply for a scholarship in honor of fallen El Cerrito/Kensington Fire Engineer, David Garrett. A single scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who embodies the spirit of commitment to public service that was exemplified by David. Qualifications
1. Must be a GRADUATING High School Senior.
2. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
3. 250 word essay (Topic: “Why did I choose this career?”). Please include name, mailing
address, phone number, and email address with submitted essay for contact purposes.
4. Two or more character references.
5. Submit copy of grade transcripts.
6. Interview with fire department personnel.
All application materials must be submitted in-person BY THE APPLICANT to the
El Cerrito Fire Department Administration Office (located at 10900 San Pablo
Avenue in El Cerrito) OR through e-mail (dciappara@ci-el- cerrito.ca.us), by
FRIDAY, JUNE 2, 2017 at 3:00 pm. Incomplete or late applications WILL NOT be
accepted. Once items #1-5 are reviewed by fire department personnel, potential
candidates will be contacted to schedule a date and time for their interview. Please
