For the past eight years TechFutures has awarded a graduating senior from De Anza, Kennedy and El Cerrito the Reflection of Excellence Award. This year our 3 winners are

Nishan Lama – El Cerrito High School

Hello, my name is Nishan Lama and I am the recipient of the Reflection of Excellence Award given to me by Whittier Education Foundation/dba Techfutures. My short-term goal right now is to do well in college. While my long-term goal is to work as a Software Engineer at a top company, such as Google. One place I would like to visit would be South Korea because I love their culture and their tasty cuisines. I will be attending the University of Santa Cruz in the Fall as a Computer Science major. In college, I will be working hard to get good grades and internship opportunities. After college, I will be looking for an entry-level Software Engineering job or an internship to enter the tech industry. A fun fact about me would I love to dance and draw in my free time. The award money I received will be used to help me pay for my college tuition. Overall, I am extremely grateful for receiving such an award and it gives me the confidence to embark on a successful career path.

Katherine Hurtado – Kennedy High School

Katherine will be attending the University of California in Davis this fall. She will pursue a major in Agricultural and Environmental Education. This education path will help her achieve her career goal as an Environmental Scientist. Katherine enjoys flowers and her dream is to walk through a field of flowers so she can enjoy the beauty of nature. She loves reading good books and spending time with animals and working with plants, flowers. She wants to be able to help others in any way she can. Katherine has hiked in Yosemite (above the waterfalls). She plans on using the award money to help with some of the college expenses this year.
